The inspiration photo
Early plan✓ Replace 4x6 aluminum window with French Doors
✓ Remove old Builders Plywood Doors. Replace with Curtains
Analysis:
Not a problem room - just small (10x12), ordinary, needed light and romance
Solution:
◼ Simple, romantic, airy, old world - canopy; carved bed crown; curtains ala Greek Aegean Villa - white; gold with some silver; battenburg lace; quilts; down comforter, the easiest bed to make; lace pillows; French Doors, installed to open out; flat (or eggshell) paint...
◼ Found "carved" crown is modern plastic shelf piece; white curtains (someday silk or linen); brass curtain rings, rods are 'gilt;' Battenburg lace comforter covers; Lace, white on white embroidery, white crochet and matelassé all good; halogen bedside lights; green plants; candles; paperwhites in bloom or orchids; white Christmas lights; it's all very restful and romantic, with cherubs/guardian angels over the doors. Lace curtains on the French Doors were a nice addition. As is the paper star light, which is usually the only light I use.
◼ This house has 8' ceilings, so one objective is to make the room seem taller - the canopy helps do that, and so does hanging the curtains floor to ceiling. The ceiling height mirrors also contribute.
◼ Phone and alarm clock beside the bed - no other electronics, though there are times I bring the Bose in, it isn't really planned for - and needs to be out of sight if incorporated. No bookshelves either. This is an escape.
◼ This room has a big closet (the length of the room,) and no dresser is included.
◼ Gold framed photos or paintings could be included, but I ended up with mirrors. First an oval mirror, but ultimately switched to two flanking almost floor to ceiling mirrors to add height and architectural interest. This project, when finished, will include a pair of almost floor to ceiling mosaic mirrors (topic of another post).
◼ Got rid of the old bedstead, now no posts, was a Queen, now a King size bed
◼ Feng Shui - earth, add fire and metal element to balance - like candles in a metal bracket - or gold. Use pairs of things, the side tables, the mirrors, photos,
etc.
Shown here in one incarnation, with the oval mirror, oriental rug and hope chest at the foot...
